Duties and Responsibilities
i. Conduct comprehensive mental state examinations to diagnose complex conditions like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety disorders.
ii. Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications (e.g., antidepressants, antipsychotics, stimulants) to balance brain chemistry.
iii. Develop and implement tailored treatment plans which may include psychotherapy, medication, or both.
iv. Order and interpret laboratory tests and brain imaging to rule out physical illnesses (like thyroid issues) that cause psychiatric symptoms.
v. Administer advanced treatments like electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and deep brain stimulation.
vi. Manage mental health crises and provide care for patients with suicidal ideation or severe mental illness
Requirement for Appointment:
i. Bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery (MB.Ch.B) degree from an Institution recognized by Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board.
ii. Master of Medicine (M.Med) in Psychiatry
iii. Certificate of Registration by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
iv. Certificate of Recognition from Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC)
v. Valid practicing license from Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
vi. At least nine (9) years of working experience
vii. SLDP lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution
viii. Certificate in Computer application skills from a recognized institution
